Housing Assistance

Rental Assistance

The Emergency Rental Assistance Program provides financial help to households that are unable to pay rent or utilities, or who have fallen behind in payment for rent, utilities (electricity, water, etc.), home energy costs, and other expenses related to housing. For people who qualify, the program may provide temporary help.

This program is run by state and local agencies. The rules and application process vary based on where you live. You can find your local emergency rental assistance (ERA) program on this site. You can also find more detailed information about the program generally here.

Homeowner Assistance

If you are a homeowner and you are having trouble with your mortgage payment because of COVID-related issues, you may also be able to get some relief, such as by pausing your payments. For more detailed information about your options, visit this Consumer Financial Protection Bureau site
